Today, the Honor 7x was officially presented in London (after China and the announcement in November). I have had the opportunity to test the device for a few days now and would like to describe my impressions to you here. Just in time for Christmas, the Huawei subsidiary Honor sends the Honor 7x her new mid-range phone into the race. But those who have already paid attention to the announcement, will find amazing parallels to the Huawei Mate 10 Lite. Can Honor keep what Huawei promises?
With the 6x, Honor has managed to add a touch of premium to the mid-range segment – at the same time it was the first smartphone in this price range to introduce a dual camera. In terms of price, it was unbeatable on the case and an insider's tip among the smartphones of the past year. But will the Honor 7x be able to do it all? The price of 299 euros and the similarity to the Huawei Mate 10 Lite speak here in any case for themselves.
Honor 7x – technical details
• 5.93 "18: 9 IPS-LCD display (FullHD + (2160 × 1080))
• 4 GB RAM, 64 GB internal Memory, expandable via microSD
• Kirin 659 processor
• Android 7.0 + EMUI 5.1
• Superfast fingerprint sensor on the back
• GorillaGlass glass
• Aluminum unibody attached to the Honor 8 Pro recalls
• Dual SIM or SIM + microSD card
• microUSB connector
• 3.5mm jack still in place
• Dual camera with 16 + 2 megapixels (Sony IMX298 sensor with f / 2.2)
• Front camera with 8 MP
• Battery with 3340 mAh
• Available in the colors blue / black from 05. December
The Honor 7x weighs 165 grams and is 7.6 millimeters thick, with the camera slightly protruding from the metal unibody at the back. If you like a natural color presentation, you will like the built-in IPS panels. Brightness and viewing angle stability are useful, but lag behind the intensity of other displays known from similar devices. The coating of the display reflects a bit too strong for my taste and also fingerprints and dirt can be seen quickly.
The Honor 7x will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat, but the update to Android 8 is already in progress and will be rolled out in Q2 2018. The in-house surface EMUI is in version 5.1 and is still customizable. After installation, of course, the usual games and applications on the device, which you can easily uninstall. Persistent bloatware does not exist. Almost ten partner apps are pre-installed, including five games.
Nice feature: In order to be able to draw the display to the complete format when displaying apps that were developed for a 16: 9 format, Honor inserts a correspondingly titled button at the lower end to scale it accordingly.
The Kirin 659 Octa-Core is enough for normal use The 7x built in the Honor Kirin 659 octa-core processor manages up to 2.3 GHz and can have 4 GB of RAM. This is enough for the average user to smoothly use the most common applications. If you're looking for a device that supports more demanding games and applications then you'll probably be a little disappointed, for the hardcore mobile gamer there are better devices than the Honor 7x.
With 64 GB of internal memory, the smartphone offers enough space for apps, photos, music or movies. If you need even more, you can insert a second memory card at the expense of the second Nano-SIM slot.
The 16 + 2 megapixel dual camera uses a Sony IMX298 sensor, known for example from the Huawei Mate 8. 4K videos can not record the smartphone, with full HD is already here. The front camera resolves with 8 megapixels and makes quite passable selfies. There is also a portrait mode, and the aperture mode lets you adjust the focus and aperture even after shooting, which usually works quite well.
The quality of the photos, which delivers the Honor 7x in the test, can be seen in the price range under 300.00 euros absolutely. The pictures have rich colors and show many details, the exposure fits. In low light, however, the sensor reaches its limits and an ugly image noise is clearly recognizable.
With the 3,340 mAh strong battery, the Honor 7x comes through the day without a problem. The power save in standby is surprisingly good and helps to achieve a good battery life. Unfortunately there is no fast-charging function.
For the price of 299 Euro, Honor offers the Honor 7x for me the best price / performance ratio in the class under 300 Euro – if you can also take part in one of the numerous Cashback campaigns, you get quite a lot a lot of smartphone for little money. Next, one should consider that you have to put a lot more money on the counter for a comparable device from Huawei. For a mid-range smartphone, the camera is perfectly fine, especially as the dual camera can get more out of the pictures here.
The Honor 7X offers more display, more memory and more camera fun than many other smartphones in the under 300 Euro range. Unfortunately, you have to make a few painstaking cuts in the whole package – no Quick-Charge, no IP67 / 68-Certification, no NFC, Android 8 will be released in Q2 2018.
The Honor 7X will be available from today (5.12.2017) at the hihonor Store and at all participating partners in the colors Midnight Black and Saphire Blue. At notebooksbilliger.de there are 50 Euro cashback.
