The list of films in the race for the Oscar for the best visual effects 2018 reduced to 20: this year is heavy!

Three months before the 2018 Oscars, on March 4, the Academy of Oscars gave a first list (extended) of the feature films in the race for the Oscar for the best visual effects. A first selection that sends frankly wood!

Valerian, by Luc Besson

Last year, The Book of the Jungle had broken the habits of the ceremony that had rewarded the three years before SF works, and not least: Ex Machina in 2016, Interstellar in 2015 and Gravity in 2014. This year again, this first enlarged selection is divided into SF films, superhero films , animated movies and big action blockbusters.

Let us note nevertheless that some famous directors managed to place one of their work: Nolan with Dunkirk (our critic), Bong Joon-ho with Okja (our criticism) and Guillermo Del Toro with The Form of Water (released at home early next year).

A real headache

This list of 20 films will be reduced to 5 by the Academy of Oscars on January 23rd. A puzzle in perspective while many of the feature films in the list below have very impressive visual effects (whether the film is good or not). In particular, we think of Valerian (our critic) or the third segment of the trilogy The Planet of the Apes (our criticism).

So, your favorite?
