Edward Straiton, presented to BOCOG to run in Xi’an on 7 July 2008*
Edward has overcome great hardship – both physically and mentally and has come through with the determination to not only excel in his education and future prospects, he also raises money for charities linked with his past to help others benefit from his experience.

Wendy Morrell, presented to BOCOG in London on 6 April 2008*
Wendy was a teacher and lecturer and a keen sportswoman until a discus accident left her partially disabled. She now spends her time working tirelessly to improve life for disabled groups and is actively involved in working with Government to improve standards for the disabled. Wendy also raised money for Dogs for the Disabled and her dog Ceasar will accompany her on the relay run.

Aaron Howlett, presented to BOCOG in Guilin 4 June 2008*
Inspired by a doctor’s report explaining he was at high risk of a heart attack, and the desire to see his young niece grow up, Aaron lost 10 stone in just 19 weeks, going on to win the title ‘The Biggest Loser UK’ and £25000 prize money. Aaron promptly gave the money to charity, believing the weight loss and new bill of health to be the real prize, and set about helping others change their lives for the better. He now mentors children and adults, helping them to lose weight, gain confidence and get fitter.

Brian Thomson, presented to BOCOG in London 6 April 2008*
Aged five, Brian fell from a 40ft building, nearly losing his life and suffering serious head injuries, which doctors said would leave him unable to walk and with severe learning difficulties. Brian has defied all the odds, not only walking again, but already winning several sporting and bravery awards including two Gold medals for Judo in the Special Olympics National Summer Games 2005. In 2000 Brian was awarded a Millennium Award for Bravery and Achievement by Glasgow City Council and, last year, travelled to China with a film crew for the warm up of the World Special Olympics, again competing for Scotland in Judo.
